Narcolepsy Is Killing Me Softly

Every since I was a child all I ever wanted to do was sleep.I was called "dopey" from Snow White because I was always tired.Everyone just passed my sleepiness of for being "lazy".As I got older I had meds shoved down my throat for depression,I knew something had to be wrong because I still slept.Medicine only made things worse. When I turned 26yrs.old I started researching my symptoms on the Internet.I knew I had some kind of sleeping disorder.I talked with my Dr.about what I learned on the Internet.I had all the symptoms of Narcolepsy. Finally my Dr. agreed to have a sleep study set up for me.What a relief to know I wasn't going crazy.I had Narcolepsy and the test proved it.Till this day alot of people and family don't understand why I want to sleep all of the time. They just assume I'm lazy.I have to take pills throughout the day just to stay awake, just to some what function. After being on medicine for the past 7yrs. my body is just immune to the med's.All I want to do is sleep. It's so hard because I feel like I haven't slept in 4days right after I wake up in the mornings from sleeping 8hrs.,I have 4 kids that need me and It's like I can't even function to be a Mother.Narcolepsy has caused me to gain a ton of weight,It has caused me depression,I stay in my house like a prisoner. It takes so much just to shower,to comb my hair,to brush my teeth and even make dinner or do wash.I feel like a failure as a Mother.I'm not looking for sympathy in anyway,I don't want anyone to feel pity for me or think I'm looking for attention.I just needed to vent and get this off my chest.
Do any of you know anyone who can relate?I'd love to hear from others who suffer from Narcolepsy. As of now there's no cures.I'm praying that one day one might come up.It increases as years go by.I think 2 of my 4 kids has it as well.I know other people may have more harder medical issues then me,I try to remember that every time I feel down and out. It's just so hard to live like a turtle.I thought I'd just tell you a little about myself.

Please feel free to comment or if anyone you know has Narcolepsy maybe they can message me or something.I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

How Verizon Fios Makes My Life As A Mom Easier

How Verizon Fios Makes My Life As A Mom Easier

With living on a strict budget I'm always trying to save money on any monthly bill I can save on.After paying close to $200 per month for the past 2yrs just for cable,Internet and phone I started researching other providers and their specials with bundled packages. When I researched Verizon Fios I knew I would be in love! I just had to try them out.I purchased their TV,phone and Internet bundled service at a discounted price.I can't complain now because I found a way to save and be happier!

I would like to share with you how Verizon Fios makes my life as a Mom easier!

With the triple play bundled package we receive TV, phone and Internet service.

With 230 channels we have many more shows available to watch that are more clearer and free from interruptions. The picture is so much better with many more features.Shows such as cooking, home repairs, history and many more.My husband can watch his golf and fishing. The kids has tons of great educational shows they learn from so we all make out! It makes my day more peaceful when their all quiet and keeping busy.

I love my super-fast Internet.It came with virus protection included,I have a speed level that is out of this world.Verizon Fios offers speed levels of 15/5-15 mbps downloaded speed and 5 mbps uploaded. It gets as high as 25mbps.As a blogger I have to have my Internet so It is great,if I'm happy everyone is happy!

I love to read so when I need quiet time the kids can play the online kid games. The games are very educational so I don't feel bad allowing them online. My 3yr.old can play as well.He has learned a lot of vowels. The Internet service is amazing.

My 2 oldest are teens, they love chatting on the phone with the new clear phone service Verizon Fios has. With friends all over the world to call it keeps my mind at ease with the nationwide unlimited calling.I don't have to worry about long distance charges and it's nice to be able to chat with family across the world.
Did I mention Verizon also offers a bundle which features cell phone service as well?No joking.

We were paying monthly for Netflix movies or odering movies On Demand at prices that are sky high. Now with the On Demand service we can choose many, many free movies.I don't have to worry about a Netflix bill anymore.Since I love my computer I'm always online so most movies or t.v shows I can't watch I'm able to catch later with the DVR service.I can set the DVR to record my favorite shows and skip the commercials as I watch them when I want to watch them.

My family and I are so happy with our Verizon Fios,I can't believe we haven't connected sooner!

Help Spread Concussion Awareness!

Help Spread Concussion Awareness!

To help spread the word about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) efforts to promote concussion awareness and proper response,SocialMoms asked to encourage my readers to learn more about the CDC'S Head Up programs.
The CDC reminds us that traumatic brain injury (TBI) including concussion, is a serious public health problem in the United States.Traumatic brain injuries contribute to a substantial number of deaths and cases of permanent disability. Data shows that, on average, approximately 1.7 million people die, are hospitalized, or are seen in an emergency department for a traumatic brain injury annually. Almost half a million emergency department visits for TBI that occur each year are among children aged 0 to 14 years.

Why is this important? Children and teens are more likely to get a concussion or TBI and take longer to recover than adults.

So what is a concussion? A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury—or TBI—caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can literally cause the brain to bounce around or twist in the skull, stretching and damaging the brain cells and creating chemical changes in the brain. What you might not know is that these chemical changes make the brain more vulnerable to further injury. During this window of vulnerability the brain is more sensitive to any increased stress or injury, until it fully recovers.

It’s important for parents, athletes, and coaches to know about concussion. So what should you do if you think your teen has a concussion? CDC developed the following 4-step Heads Up Action Plan to help you protect your child or teen if you suspect they have a concussion:

1. Keep your teen out of play. If your child or teen has a concussion, her/his brain needs time to heal. Don’t let your child or teen return to play the day of the injury and until a health care professional, experienced in evaluating for concussion, says he or she is symptom-free and it’s OK to return to play. A repeat concussion that occurs before the brain recovers from the first—usually within a short period of time (hours, days, or weeks)—can slow recovery or increase the likelihood of having long-term problems. In rare cases, repeat concussions can result in edema (brain swelling), permanent brain damage, and even death.

2. Seek medical attention right away. A health care professional experienced in evaluating for concussion will be able to decide how serious the concussion is and when it is safe for your child or teen to return to sports.

3. Teach your child or teen that it’s not smart to play with a concussion. Rest is key after a concussion. Sometimes athletes wrongly believe that it shows strength and courage to play injured. Discourage others from pressuring injured athletes to play. Don’t let your child or teen convince you that s/he’s “just fine.”

4. Tell all of your child or teen’s coaches and the school nurse about ANY concussion. Coaches, school nurses, and other school staff should know if your child or teen has ever had a concussion. Your child or teen may need to limit activities while s/he is recovering from a concussion. Things such as studying, driving, working on a computer, playing video games, or exercising may cause concussion symptoms to reappear or get worse. Talk to your health care professional, as well as your child or teen’s coaches, school nurse, and teachers. If needed, they can help adjust your child or teen’s school activities during her/his recovery.

In addition to this, the Heads Up campaign includes tailored educational materials and messages developed for specific audiences, such as:

Health Care Professionals:

Heads Up: Brain Injury In Your Practice

Heads Up to Clinicians, mild TBI guidelines

Sports Coaches and Administrators:

I would like to share with you some of my ideas for preventing traumatic brain injuries:

Always wear helmets when riding motorcycles, bikes, skateboarding, etc. any activity that has a possible chance of falling off

Always wear a seat belt when your in a vehicle.Especially when the vehicle is moving and have booster seats, car seats checked before each use

When playing sports always keep a helmet on and wear the proper shoes for the sport or event

Before cleaning/mopping a floor, make sure everyone is aware that the floor will be wet

Place a bath mat in your shower/tub so it helps from slipping

In the winter keep extra snow salt on hand for the ice weather

Before trips and on a regular basis always have your brakes checked

Use the proper safety equipment while repairing a roof or anytime your up high in case you slip and fall

If you like climbing hills or skiing make sure all your safety tools and equipment are up to date

ALWAYS check for recalls on cribs, car seats, bikes, etc.to keep safe

Walk down the steps, never run because you can slip easily and fall

I hope my ideas will help keep your family safe, please add to these ideas by commenting below! Let's Help Spread Concussion Awareness!
