How I Keep My Family Healthy #FarmRichSnacks

How I Keep My Family Happy

SocialMoms and Farm Rich has teamed up together and requested to share about how I keep my family happy with a fun new blogging program, you can read more about this request here !!

With having 2 teenagers and 2 elementary age children It can be hard at times to keep them all happy at one time.Chucky Cheese is a drag to the teenagers and the mall is to time consuming to the younger one's!Over the years I have learned so many ways to keep everyone happy and it gets easier and easier. It's the little things we do together that matters the most. It's the cute notes with smiley faces and a message they read when opening up their lunch boxes or under their pillows at night when it's time for bed.Sometimes we will all have a beauty makeover togehter or go for a massage! The movies is a place my teens hang out at so during those hours the teens are away I play dress up with my youngest daughter or school with my youngest son.At night when the teens are up we have pillow fights or watch movies together and eat popcorn.Camping is a big thing to us,we love sitting around the fire making smores.Cook outs in the summer are alot of fun,we also round up all our clothes and things we no longer need or want to sell at our yard sale. It's alot of fun because we sell lemon aide and hot dogs for spending money!

So I pretty much keep up with what I call "QT"with my family to keep them happy.Quality Time is so important and can be so much fun. They love when I make them smile and surprise them with outings.

Please feel free to share how you keep your family happy by commenting below!

My Favorite Thing About Easter

My Favorite Thing About Easter

SocialMoms and Universal Pictures have teamed up to introduce a fun, new blogging program and asked me to share with you about what is my favorite thing about Easter. You can read more about this request here

Easter was always one of my favorite holidays since I was a little girl.My Mother would take my sisters and I out shopping for our Easter clothes about a month before Easter. We would choose beautiful, fancy dresses with the silk lace beaded designs. We would get the cute white bonnet hats with a matching little purse. The shoes we would pick out were the black shinny one's with the square heel and a bow.Our bobby socks would have the pretty satin lace.My Mother would paint our nails a light pink color and curl our hair all the same way.I would feel like a Princess.Did I mention the cute Shaw's we would wear over our shoulders?Wow,I just knew we all looked so pretty!

Mother would line us all up together to take our pictures with our little legs crossed. We were all given a dollar bill to put into our little purses.Easter was such a good day year after year.I can't wait in till next month on Easter Day to dress my kids up!!I love to watch their faces when they come down stairs in the morning looking for their Easter baskets. My Grandmom made all our Easter baskets and I passed them down to my kids.Everytime I think about those days when I was a little girl I smile like a kid all over again!

My family and I also attend Sunday Church service Easter morning following a delicious meal cooked by different members of our Church.I remember my Mother would be so worried that the food would be down our dresses and be ruined.Only once it was my youngest sister who dropped a piece of ham down her dress,it was only a light mark but my Mother looked at her and said "I'm so thankful today that, I can't use the positive energy to be mad,no point in getting upset!"I just love Easter, the memories I have are memories that are so special to me.I find myself doing the same on Easter as my Mother did with us.Year after year on Easter I tell my kids about those days!! It's such a wonderful feeling I feel when I share stories with my children.

Please feel free to share your favorite thing about Easter by commenting below!

About Hop:

Blending state of the art animation with live action, Hop is a comedy about E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand), the teenage son of the Easter Bunny. On the eve of taking over the family business, E.B. leaves for Hollywood in pursuit of his dream of becoming a drummer. Once there, he encounters Fred (James Marsden of the X-Men series, Enchanted), recently fired and determined to pull his life together. Feigning injury, E.B. persuades Fred to take him in, and Fred finds himself living with the world’s worst houseguest. Back on Easter Island, the Easter Bunny’s second in command, an oversized chick named Carlos, seizes E.B.’s disappearance as an opportunity to plot a coup. Ultimately, Fred and E.B. are Easter’s only hope and they find themselves returning to Easter Island, locked in an epic battle to save the beloved holiday. The film is helmed by Tim Hill, director of the blockbuster Alvin and the Chipmunks and produced by Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me).

Child Safety Tips to Make Your Home Safer

Child Safety Tips to Make Your Home Safer

As a Safest Parent I would like to do a blog post for A Child Safety Competition!!!

As a Mother of 4, I always worry if my house is safe for my children. It's only natural as a Parent to worry. After searching on the Internet I came across a website The Safest Line by Ken Levinson(more info about him below). His site is all for Preventing Child Injury by Promoting Child Safety.I just knew this was the perfect topic for me to write about. As Parents we can never be to cautious about the safety of our homes.Children are very curious and adventurous. They aren't aware of all the things that can hurt them.Everyday there are recalls about children's toys being non-safe or children furniture not being safe.It just worries me.So I decided to take up the offer to blog about ways to make the home safer.I tell you, reading the site I learned a ton of information.I hope to be able to share this information to other Parents with tips for helping to make their homes safer as well.It never hurts to do a home safety check/inspection periodically to make sure everything is safe for your loved one's.

Here is a list of tips to help make your home safer in every room! If you feel more comfortable contacting a professional to do these checks please feel free to do so.

  • Check every room in the house: First take a note book and a pen with you to take notes as you go through your home for this inspection. You never know if you will need to remember a few things as you inspect your home for safety. From bottom to top of your home check ALL smoke detectors.Make sure the batteries are working and the alarms work.Usually you can hit a test button on your smoke alarms.Always have back-up batteries on hand for your smoke detectors. If you don't have a safe exit plan with your family in case of a fire please write one up and go over it with the family.Always have a meet up spot in case of a fire about a block away from your house to make sure everyone is safe.Always have electric outlet protectors placed so the kids can't electrocute themselves from playing in a electric socket.

  • Schedule Professional Inspections: If your like me,you don't have a clue about inspecting furnaces and boilers. All appliances need checked on a regular schedule.Hire a professional inspector if needed to check your appliances, fire place, vents, etc.to make sure nothing is leaking or broke.
  •
  • Kichen: Make sure all your cleaning & household products are put up high so the kids can't get to them. They can easily mistake different cleaning products as drinks.Use child safety locks on your cabinets to keep the kids safe from these products.Safety latches will not keep children out of cabinets and drawers, but they will slow children down. Make sure all products are stored up high in secured or locked cabinets.Keep all knifes and sharps items put up as well. Please make sure a fire extinguisher is on hand in the kitchen in case of a cooking fire. When cooking always keep an eye on the stove in case the kids climb up on it to see whats cooking.Always turn your cooking pot handles away from reach towards the back of the stove top in case your child reaches for a pan or pot to pull off the top of stove.

  • Living Room & Dinning Room- If you have space heaters, check to make sure the cords are cool and not hot.Always have them placed on a floor flat and level.Try not to place them on rugs and carpets, keep them far away from bedding, curtains, clothes, toys, etc. It's so dangerous to use a gasoline space heater.Always turn off the space heater when you leave the room it's in or if you leave your house.Make sure you have a up to date space heater, retailers now have Safety Certified heaters with a mark of certification. It's located on the top of the space heaters as a sticker. If you have curtains, make sure they have hook protectors from choking.

  • If you have tables or furniture with sharp, pointy edges put something that's padded on the sharp edges to prevent children from running into them.

  • Bed Rooms-Check all your electric sockets to make sure no clothes are near them, don't leave on an iron after ironing clothes or leave on curling irons.Your child could get burned touching these things.Cosmetic and personal care products are the leading cause of accidental poisonings by children under age 6.  Make sure to treat your cosmetics and personal care products as potential poisons and store them in a secure location.Other dangers in the bedroom include medicines, such as sleeping pills or vitamins, left on night stands or in unlocked suitcases.

  • Play Room- Your child's playroom is probably the area they play in the most.Know the safety recalls for toys.Daily reports are made recalling tons of different toys along with kids furniture such as :strollers, cribs, play pens, high chairs, baby monitors, etc. To keep up with the recalls on these items refer to the Consumer Product Safety Commission .You can sign up for Safety News and Re-call emails here

  • Bathroom- Make sure you clean out your medicine cabinet on a regular basis. All medicines should have child resistant caps and be locked away from children. Even though a product has a child safety cap, remember -- It is only child resistant, not childproof! Children can and do manage to open these caps.At all times keep the sink and tub water handles tight so your toddler can't turn the water on.Child proof the toilet lid,a child can drown in a teaspoon size of water.. Even though a product has a child safety cap, remember -- It is only child resistant, not childproof! Children can and do manage to open these caps to open these caps.
  • Attic- Make sure no lead is in your house. It's known that exposure to lead, even in tiny amounts, causes loss of intelligence and other nasty problems in children. It was only relatively recently (2008) with the passage of Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act that they finally set limits on the amount of lead in consumer items, particularly kids toys. As of June 2010, the legal limit for lead in kid's toys is 300 ppm (parts per million) and will drop to 100 ppm by August 2011.

  • Basement- Test your water heater,it's always good to have it set as 120-125.Children burn faster then adults because their skin is thinner.Burns are the 2ND.leading cause of death for young children 0-5. Make sure there's no paper or clothing around the furnace and water heater to cause a fire.
  • BackYard-If you have a back yard pool make sure you have a pool protection cover over it when it's not in use to prevent any drowning.Keep any clothing lines/ropes up high where a child can't hang on them.Check play sets for loose screws.Make sure you don't store any appliances out back in your yard,a child could get into a refrigerator or dryer that is outback for the trash and suffocate.
Places to call: Keep a list of places to call in case of an emergency!Make sure the list is near the phone.
  • 911-Teach your kids how to dial 911 in case of any emergency for ambulance or police
  • Poison Control-  1-800-222-1222 in case of any chemicals or medicine accidents, they are available 24-hrs a day,With Specially trained personal to respond to emergency calls about poisonings and provide educational information.
  • Consumer Product Safety Commission-Info about any toy recalls or product related inquiry & to report any unsafe products.Or call 1-800-638-2772

I hope these tips and info.will help with keeping your home safe for your kids!

10 Tips For Getting Away With Great Family Travel Deals

Social Moms and  Alamo have teamed up to introduce another fun blogging program in honor of the Alamo Insiders program and  requested me to share 10 tips for getting away with great family travel deals!
You can find out more about this request here!

Going on vacations every year can add up to so much money,I know we all love to save as much money as possible when ever we can!! Prices can be so high these days.Who has the money to just waste when many deals are out there just waiting to be found???I hope I can help out with your future vacations by offering you 10 tips that will find you the most great family deals!!

  1. Plan in advance - If you reserve your tickets for a plane or a train many months in advance the rates would be so much lower.Pay during off season, make sure you know the polices for refunds in case you cancel or need a different schedule, know about the rules in case you loose your ticket, ect.Alot of times you can find family specials with discounts when you have a certain amount of people booking for the event. The more people, the more of a discount.
  2. Save all year around- Keep a special savings account that is only for your vacation.Have a set amount from each pay check that is put into this account,no matter what don't dip into this account.Have a few money jars sitting around the house for when you and the family has loose change to drop into it.Make it fun for the kids as well, once the jars fill up allow them to help put the coins into wrappers to cash in, when they count it all they will be amazed at the amount and feel proud for contributing. Maybe they can have a few dollars to spend on the vacation to buy a souvenir for helping to save.
  3. Online-The internet can go along way when researching for almost anything. You can map quest directions from point A to point B.The best part about the Internet for me is to "google" everything! Find out the different gas prices in different cities or states. You can book your hotel online, pay your transportation fees online, search for coupons.Never,,ever pay for anything intill you know you searched online for a coupon or a deal.
  4. Travel Agency-Check out the different travel agency's for package deals. They can assist you in hotel reservations or restuarant reservations.Travel Agencys will do alot of the footwork for you such as providing you with maps, taxi's,travel schedules, vacation homes, ect. They can offer a package deal with the price of a theme park included or what ever the event includes.
  5. AAA- As a member of AAA,you have so many benefits. If you lock your keys in the trunk they will come to the site to open your car door, they offer towing in case your car breaks down, they offer assistance incase your car runs out of gas, they even assist with different travel agencys. The list goes on and on.
  6. Airport/Train Schedules-Know your schedules, keep a time chart. It never hurts to be early.Know the station hours, the luggage rules, prices, ect. Always remember where you park your car.It helps me so much to keep paper and pen to track everything. With so much going on it's so easy to forget.Make sure you know where tolls are due, keep change for the tolls.
  7. Car Rental-  If you plan to rent a car make sure everything is set up in advance, look for coupons for deals, know the mileage and rates. Before renting and before returning the rental check for any scratches, dents, anything that wasn't there when you purchased the rental.Know how much the deposit is for the rental.Know all the coverage.
  8. Don't carry cash- Just incase your money is stolen or lost always try to carry credit cards or travelers checks.Always try to avoid having cash.
  9. Before Packing make a list- You always want to check the weather forecast before you pack.Different areas has different weather.Pack for rainy days, snow days, hot days, what ever the weather calls for.Don't forget umbrellas.Make a check list and check it off as you pack.Add your toiletries, your personal products, you may need laundry detergent, ect. ALWAYS have an emergency kit on hand. You never know if and when a band aid is needed or ointment, you may need bug spray in case of mosquitoes, flys, ect.Check the hotels policys for bed bugs, know when they last had inspections for bed bugs.
  10. Inspection of your vehicle- Before a road trip always make sure your vehicle is inspected for oil changes, brakes are good, tires are good and rotated, ect.you don't want to have a break down because of some minor repairs weren't fixed.Keep a spare tire and tools you will need in case of a flat tire.Make sure your gas is filled and no engine lights are on.All lights should be working such as the brake light, turn signals, mirrors.Having a GPS is a good investment to know where your at and going.

Please feel free to comment below with some tips that will help with great family deals!
