Seattle - Sights of Your Life

Seattle - Sights of Your Life

Transitions Lenses and SocialMoms has partnered together in honor of the Transitions Lenses Sightseeing City Tour stop in Seattle at the Washington Brewers Festival and asked if I could help promote this event as well as share my most cherished sights in my life with you!

I think sometimes without realizing it we can take things for granted easily. Our vision is something so important and needed in our life's. Being able to watch the sun set or seeing flowers growing is so awesome.
We have such a beautiful world with so many things to see and nature makes it all possible. It's amazing how we see the color of things such as grass, tree's and animals. Just seeing the sky, the moon and stars is wonderful. Being able to see our children walk and run having fun is a great site to see.

As I type this post I'm remembering a few memorable sites I have experienced as a little girl. One of my most favorite would be when my parents would take me to Long's Park to feed the ducks.  I would sit along side of the water watching the ducks swim all in a row. The mama duck would have her baby ducks following her peacefully. I'd look around and see all of the trees and be amazed how pretty they were. The sun would be bright and I would just be in my own little world. Now that I have kids I take them to the same spot and I watch them enjoy feeding the ducks and being able to experience that great feeling. Without a healthy vision we wouldn't be able to experience these things.
Growing up my mother would always tell me how important our vision is and to appreciate it. I have learned from her by keeping up with eye exams on a regular basis for my children as well. My son and I wear glasses, I make sure we wear them as directed especially when reading. It can be a pain having to clean them sometimes but it's way worth being able to see.

So tell me how does a healthy sight play a role in your family's life? Please feel free to share by commenting below.

Sudden infant death syndrome - PubMed Health

Baby Kyle R.I.P

Do you have a infant or know anyone who does have one or maybe babysits?
If you answered yes to this question PLEASE read and educate yourself about S.I.D.S (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This is so real and it happens to many babies. I'm not trying to scare anyone about this but I just want more people to be aware of S.I.D.S. Almost all SIDS deaths occur without any warning or symptoms when the infant is thought to be sleeping.

My nephew Baby Kyle was only 3 weeks old when he passed away to S.I.D.S in his sleep, it broke my heart and I watched my sister go through so much pain when he passed. She still has a hard time with the death of her son. It's so important to me to help spread the word about S.I.D.S, so many young teens are having baby's and may not know about it. Please help me and many others by spreading the awareness of S.I.D.S. Please read this article on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome from PubMed Health here and share with others who may not know the facts about S.I.D.S. I know we don't like to even began to think about a child passing but it's something that does happen and needs to be discussed. I feel so bad for any mother who has lost their child...my heart goes out to them,,,

Prevention

Revised American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) guidelines, released in October 2005, recommend the following:

DO NOT put a baby to sleep on its stomach. Side sleeping is unstable and should also be avoided.

Let babies sleep in the same room (NOT the same bed) as parents.

Only put babies to sleep in a crib.

Avoid soft bedding materials.

Make sure the room temperature is not too hot.

Offer the baby a pacifier when going to sleep.

Do not use breathing monitors or products marketed as ways to reduce SIDS.

Tips for Safe Winter Driving

Tips for Safe Winter Driving

SocialMoms and Esurance has teamed up together and requested me to share some very important tips and information with you that will be helpful for winter driving! You may read more about this request here.

As a mother I always want to be cautious when I'm on the road especially when I'm driving with my family and know that others are out on the road as well. I have to be safe and responsible as a driver. I do love the winter and the snow but I'm sure we all know it could be hard dealing with some of the conditions it can bring like when it is snowing or sleeting or raining. It can be very unsafe at times but many of us has to do it to get to where were going. Most of us has to drive to work, take the kids to school, run very important erronds than't can't wait, go grocery shopping or other places we just simply can't avoid at times. These are those times that we really have to be safe. I know it can be scarey for us all but if we know what to do then it should be easier when the time comes.

I would love to share with you today a few of my tips for safe winter driving that I have learned. These tips has been such a help to me and if they have helped me I'd love to pass it on...Please add on to my tips if you would like to. We can never be to safe on the road!!

Ice:
Ice can be so slippery on car tires, sometimes it can be a small piece of ice that you can't really see get into the way and cause an accident. It's good to drive very, very slow. Drive slow with alot of space between the car in front of you. Avoid slamming on your brakes because they can skid right into another car. Try to gently stop for lights and stop signs ahead of time.

Snow:
Always drive slowly in the snow, when you slow down you can gently pump your brakes and still have space in between the car ahead of you.
Always have your car prepped ahead of time with newer windshield wipers and tires with treads that are 6/32 inch deep. Have gadgets in your car stored like a bag of sand and a shovel.

Rain:
Avoid using cruise control in the rain, being that it's incapable of recognizing different weather conditions it can cut down on your response time causing a big accident.
