Winter is the time my skin dries out the most. My hands get so dry and it's a pain because I'm always typing and would have to keep applying different lotions/moisturizers that didn't work. It was just so time consuming especially when I have deadlines to meet. I also was wasting so much money trying to find the right lotion.

 

I have tried many different brands, my hands will be so greasy and the dryness still came right back. How many of you has this problem?

 

 Well, I was so happy when I received a email to host a review/giveaway for Eucerin because it was a lotion I have yet tried at that time. I received my package in the mail and I went right for the New Eucerin "Professional Repair", I have to say I'm so excited to share with you the results!

Not only was it non greasy, it was so lightweight! I rubbed in a small pea size amount on my hands and I could feel the softness in less then 3 seconds! I was able to type with no problem and it is fragrance free so when I touched my face it didn't feel as if it was on fire! I have to say I'm in love with Eucerin! It surprised me because it lasted for many hours without me having to reapply more. I was even more surprised later that night after taking a nice relaxing bath I rubbed Eucerin on my feet, I'm ashamed to say they needed some tender loving care because they were so dry! My feet are now as smooth and soft as baby's skin. No more cracked lines and roughness. I can't believe the results, I have tried many different lotions and none can compare to Eucerin.

An Excessive Sleeping Disorder Called Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy (NAR-ko-lep-se)

 is a disorder that causes periods of extreme daytime sleepiness.

Many people like myself know all to well what it's like to have extreme sleepiness different times throughout the day. The sleep attacks can come on at any moment at any given time. I notice my sleepiness hits especially when I'm feeling sad or I'm laughing. As strange as it sounds narcoleptics feel the tiredness come on more when they show/feel any emotion.

 As a narcoleptic my life is so much different then everyone else in my family. Alot of people don't understand this disorder, I get so frustrated when all I want to do is sleep and I get frowns and comments when I'm to weak and sleepy to participate in family activities such as cookouts, birthday parties, get-togethers and the different events that take place where I should be attending. I can honestly say my kids understand and respect the fact that I can't always be awake. It's some of my friends and relatives who can give me a hard time.

Through the years I have read many different forums and posts on the Internet and I notice alot of people with narcolepsy also has trouble with others around them understanding this. I find often people have the misconception that narcoleptics are just "lazy" like as if we have control over our disorder. I just have to remind myself that many people don't understand and just won't except it.

Growing up I was in and out of counseling being told I have depression and being handed a prescription to treat depression because I'd explain about how I was always tired and lacked social activities. It would just be passed as if I would take a pill I would feel better, I knew it had to be something other then depression. I knew the medicine wasn't making anything better and over the years I have tried out many different medications. Finally when I reached the age 24 I knew I had to figure out what was going on. At that time I started doing research on the Internet, I read articles on sleepiness and looked up symptoms others had like me. I went to my Dr. and explained to him about the Narcolepsy articles and showed him what I read. He sent me for a sleep study and that's when I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy. Needless to say I still have take medicine throughout the day to help me stay awake. Medicine won't take the sleepiness away completely but it does help be more comfortable. I'm now awake more through the day and a little more active. I do have my days where I will have to sleep all day.  

It can be hard at times because those who don't know or understand this disorder can be so cruel, not intentionally but it does happen. Not knowing they will laugh or crack jokes. Narcolepsy is not a laughing matter.

I decided to write this post to hopefully spread the word to help people become more aware and understanding to this disorder. I often remind myself about how many more people in this world suffer with much harder disorders, some can't even walk, some people can't talk, there's people with missing arms or legs or has medical conditions that are so painful for them to even enjoy life. I don't feel sorry for myself, I just have a hard time sometimes excepting that I have narcolepsy.

With no cure for Narcolepsy, the disorder usually begins in young adulthood and lasts for the rest of the sufferer’s life. The disorder also may cause muscle weakness. Some people who have the disorder fall asleep suddenly, even if they're in the middle of talking, eating, or another activity.
Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder caused by the brain's inability to regulate sleep-wake cycles normally. At various times throughout the day, people with narcolepsy experience irresistible bouts of sleep. If the urge becomes overwhelming, individuals will fall asleep for periods lasting from a few seconds to several minutes. In rare cases, some people may remain asleep for an hour or longer. Some people who have the disorder fall asleep suddenly, even if they're in the middle of talking, eating, or another activity. In addition to excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), three other major symptoms frequently characterize narcolepsy: cataplexy, or the sudden loss of voluntary muscle tone; vivid hallucinations during sleep onset or upon awakening; and brief episodes of total paralysis at the beginning or end of sleep.  Narcolepsy is not definitively diagnosed in most patients until 10 to 15 years after the first symptoms appear. The cause of narcolepsy remains unknown.  It is likely that narcolepsy involves multiple factors interacting to cause neurological dysfunction and sleep disturbances.
Narcolepsy has no cure, but medicines, lifestyle changes, and other therapies can improve symptoms.

Since I was a kid my mother always used a well known brand of vapor rub for my sisters and I when we were sick with the sniffles and congested. She would also pull out the vaporizer to have on through out the night. Do you have a infant or know anyone who does have one or maybe babysits?

If you answered yes to this question PLEASE read and educate yourself about S.I.D.S (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). This is so real and it happens to many babies. I'm not trying to scare anyone about this but I just want more people to be aware of S.I.D.S. Almost all SIDS deaths occur without any warning or symptoms when the infant is thought to be sleeping.

My nephew Baby Kyle was only 3 weeks old when he passed away to S.I.D.S in his sleep, it broke my heart and I watched my sister go through so much pain when he passed. She still has a hard time with the death of her son. It's so important to me to help spread the word about S.I.D.S, so many young teens are having baby's and may not know about it. Please help me and many others by spreading the awareness of S.I.D.S. Please read this article on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome from PubMed Health here and share with others who may not know the facts about S.I.D.S. I know we don't like to even began to think about a child passing but it's something that does happen and needs to be discussed. I feel so bad for any mother who has lost their child...my heart goes out to them,,,

Prevention

Revised American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) guidelines, released in October 2005, recommend the following:

DO NOT put a baby to sleep on its stomach. Side sleeping is unstable and should also be avoided.

Let babies sleep in the same room (NOT the same bed) as parents.

Only put babies to sleep in a crib.

Avoid soft bedding materials.

Make sure the room temperature is not too hot.

Offer the baby a pacifier when going to sleep.

Do not use breathing monitors or products marketed as ways to reduce SIDS.

I'm sure you agree that cooking healthy meals these days is so important to our kids health and our own health. I would love to share some tips with you all of how I manage to have my kids eating healthy and they love it!!

1. Include Everyone:  When it's time to go grocery shopping it makes it so much more fun to include the family. First start making a grocery list together at home allowing the kids to also include the healthy foods they love to eat as well. It makes them feel like their voices are heard and respected when their included. I allow them to take turns writing the grocery list. We all hop in the car and go to the grocery store together with our list prepared.
2. Research:  It's really helpful to look up information on the Internet about the benefits of healthy food. Take turns with the kids and research each item to see what it helps in our body. Like milk helps the bones to be strong and on.
3. Make it Fun: With each meal prepared let the kids each take turns on choosing one of the food items they want to go with dinner for the night as long as it's a healthy item. This is where the Internet researching will come in at.
4. Assign Tasks: Before preparing dinner make a list of the tasks that's needed to be done to prepare the meal and assign each person a task. One can season the food, one can bake it or one can be in charge of cutting it up or what ever needs to be done.
5. Eat Together at the Dinner Table: It will be easy to have everyone sit down and eat the meal together at the dinner table since everyone all helped. Each family member can share how the meal taste and plan the next shopping trip!!

Walgreens Prescription Savings

SocialSpark and Walgreens has teamed up together and asked me to share with my readers about the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club.
Many of us are in love with the convenient 24 hour drive-thru Walgreens provides especially when the locations are close to our neighborhoods saving us on gas. I love to go to Walgreens for my prescriptions,I love their customer service as well.  Walgreens tried to negotiate with Express Scripts to come up with a new contract to continue as part of it's Pharmacy Provider Network but it didn't work out. As of January 1,2012 Walgreens is no longer part of Express Scripts Pharmacy Provider Network. Unfortunately this change includes all Walgreens Pharmacies nationwide and Duane Reade Pharmacies in the New York area. Express Scripts's actions are causing disruption with no significant benefit to patients or their health plan. This change has caused many pharmacy patients to go elsewhere to use their benefits who were covered by Walgreens and Express Script. Having to change pharmacies and driving further to another pharmacy can be such a burden and cause many to be upset.
  To find out if you are effected by this change, please check the back of your prescription insurance card.  If it says Express Scripts on there, you may ask your Walgreens pharmacist if you are directly effected and how they can help you through this change. 
Walgreens is trying to help by offering a special discount on annual membership for it's Walgreens Prescription Savings Club For $10 a year a family membership will cover everyone in your immediate family,spouse,dependents under 22 and pets. Individuals may join for only $5. Join and receive discounts on your prescriptions. The Walgreens Prescription Savings Club Membership offers you savings on over 8,000 brand name and generic medications.
